Frequently Asked Questions
Newborns
These sessions are normally 3-4 hours long allowing time for feedings, diaper changes, and set/wardrobe changes. This session also includes an online viewing gallery with digital download of your images. Newborns are best photographed in the first 10-12 days old. Once you know your due date, we can tentatively plan your session accordingly. I typically use available/window light during these sessions. That being said, I like to schedule these sessions around 10:00 or 11:00 a.m. I always have lighting equipment as a back up if needed.
Newborn sessions can either be done in your home or in a small studio setup that I have in my home. This choice is completely up to you, just know that I will need ample window light, the room we will be working in to be fairly warm, and an area free of clutter to work with when photographing in your home.
Before the session please dress baby in a loose item of clothing that is easy to remove (no onesies that have to come off over the head, etc.) and try avoid any clothing which might leave marks on the skin. If possible, keep baby awake during the hour leading up to the session and time feedings so that baby can be fed upon arrival.
Bring anything you would like to use in your session. (Blankets, hats, headbands, outfits, stuffed animals, etc.) You do not need to bring anything if you don't want to, I have items and props for use during your session. Even if you are not using a pacifier yet, please bring one just for the session. It might only be needed for a moment just to keep baby asleep while settling into a pose.
Basic Sessions
These sessions include families, children, high school seniors, engagements, and maternity. They are a 45 min session that DOES include a a private, online viewing gallery with digital download of your images. This gallery is password protected, can be shared with whoever you choose, and additional prints can be purchased from it.
I shoot all of these sessions on location within the West Central MO area. If you have a place in mind let me know, I love finding new places for sessions! Some areas that are photoshoot friendly are: downtown Warrensburg, Knob Noster State Park, Cass Co. farm, Harrisonville Lake, downtown Lee's Summit or many of the surrounding small town historic districts, ball fields, and parks are great backdrops. These sessions are typically shot in the late afternoon/evening time to get that pretty golden hour light.
When it comes to what to wear I suggest coordinating colors. This does not have to mean everyone wears the same color, just colors of the same scheme or color palettes. Neutrals are always a great place to start, then add accessories for pops of color. Try to avoid busy patterns and large logos. We want the focus to be on you and your family, not distracting clothes.
The best time to book your session is about two-three weeks out depending on the season. Please have a few dates in mind when contacting me and know that my weekends go quickly!
Weddings
This is where my business really took off when I first began my photography business in 2011. Since then I have learned new specialties, but wedding photography will always be my first love.
